So where was I, oh yes - the whole cooking dinner thing. It was really yummy, turns out we didn't have as much rice as I thought we did so I ended up cooking some noodles and dad and patrick both loved it so YAY :) Its been awhile since i cooked something interesting - I missed it, so i've decided to make an effort to cook/bake more often.
Job hunting: still going with that. I haven't had any work from my current employer in about 3months now which is frustrating, its not really their fault, its just how things are at the moment. I've been continuing my efforts to find something with more hours. I'm more than happy to keep going with my current job if my second job's hours fit its just a case of getting that other job. I've been touching base with places i applied at when i first got here but unfotrunately nothing's come up. I'll keep it up though - something will come along I know it will. I just need to hang in there and stay positive.
Oh I mentioned the challenge for this year huh? well there's a wee thing called "101 things in 1001 days" that I decided to do. I'll post my list here in a few days, I still have 1 more thing to add to the list and to triple check I haven't got multiple's again heh. Its actually a lot more fun than doing new years resolutions. I'll talk more about it next time though k?
The weather has been insanely hot for my tastes. There are days when I have to force myself to eat even the smallest thing cos the heat has supressed my appetite. Then there are the days when its so hot you'll break a sweat just walking from the lounge to the kitchen for a drink lol those are probably my least favourite days. But they do say the first couple of summer's are the worst for people who didn't grow up here. Though I know a few people who grew up here who still struggle to make it through summer.
Well i'd better finish this up, i've got some emails to send :) I'll try to remember to update tomorrow!

Heerrrrrrrrrrrrrre's.... KIWI!
Thats right folks i'm back to using blogger and back to my old blog. I was thinking about starting a new one for my life in australia but thats just too much hassle!
Anyways Welcome to 2009! I hope everyone had a great holiday season (no matter what holidays you observed), and are having a prosperous and happy new year!
Christmas/yule for us was great, we spent it with family and went away with them for a few days. I got spoilted rotten! and feel very blessed by the generosity and love my australia side of the family showed us. Because money was a little tight for us this year, we decided on something creative and personal, I printed some of my photos and had them framed for various family members. I was a bit nervous how it would all go over but they really enjoyed it and appreciated the effort.
We spent a few days up at my aunt and uncle's farm and had an absolutely blast. I rode the quad bikes on my own, learnt how to shoot a bow, went 4 wheel driving, lots of bush hikes and spent plenty of time relaxing. All in all it was an amazing time and I can't wait to go back.
Unfortunately its 4:30pm and I need to finish this so I can go cook dinner, I'm making chicken caccitore! just part of my little challenge for this year (which i'll explain when i finish my update later - providing I can kick hubby off the computer later to finish it otherwise it will be tomorrow).

Winter solstice
Indeed, today is winter solstice here in the southern hemisphere - the shortest day of the year!
I've been having a bit of a clean out today, reorganising things and tidying up. Unfortunately I had to stop kind of early because dad has work at 2am and he needs a good night's sleep. At least I can still do things like clean out old email accounts/shut down ones i don't use anymore, and clean out spam from the email accounts I do use.
Had a pretty quiet weekend so far, did the usual things today - shopping, housework, visited my uncle J, watched some tv.
Patrick and I started watching "Dexter" last week - absolutely loved it, its such a messed up tv show. Now we're watching "Supernatural" (can we say YAY for friends with huge dvd collections!).
I'm very seriously thinking about moving my blog somewhere else. For some reason this site always lags my computer, with the wee writing box and all. Its getting frustrating. It gets to the point some days when I can't listen to a cd AND update this blog at the same time, which is why you haven't heard much from me lately - i just get frustrated and shut it off. But don't worry - I'll let you know if i decide to move it elsewhere, and if so where that place might be.
Still no word on the bookstore job, I'll give her a call on monday and see what's happening - hopefully they haven't done interviews yet. Failing that i've got a few more jobs to write cover letters for, and email off :) wish me luck!

Yay its friday!
I ended up calling the bookstore yesterday, and the news was pretty good..kinda. Turns out I didn't get that job, but she wants me to interview for a more senior role. She remember me so that's a good sign, and when I called she said she was intending on calling me this coming week to set me up an interview time. So fingers crossed.
Other than that, not much going on here. Just usual day to day stuff. Just waiting for dad to finish work, then we're heading out to get the groceries. Thats about all for the excitement phase of today. Tomorrow my aunt arrives from new zealand to see her daughter/the rest of the family, so it will be cool to catch up with her while she's over here.
I heard things aren't good in wisconsin people! that its under a state of emergancy? I know that there was flooding in the north/western part of the state but thats all I know. Hope you guys are doing okay. Missing you all heaps!!!!

From the land down under...
Another update!
For the most part things are situation normal. Still job hunting, still doing housework, reading, and ocassionally playing world of warcraft.
No news yet on the bookstore job, still keeping my fingers crossed. Apparently over here when people say oh we'll call you on x day or we'll meet you on x day..they don't really mean that at all! silly people! Its okay though, i'll give it a few more days then i'll put that firmly in the "unsuccessful catagory". Meanwhile i'm still looking for other possibilities. I'm thinking I might have to go back to telemarketing, if only i could find one that wasn't in the CBD and had earlier hours. Its a pain living out in the "suburbs" because it takes so long to travel, but to be honest it takes longer to go by car than by bus if you're going in the city - buses get right of way ALL the time and heaven help you if you're not letting that bus go first...it'll run you over!
So today i'm just relaxing, doing a bit of writing and listening to music. Waiting for the 2nd load of washing to be done so I can hang it out and then i'll be done for the day..YAY! I'm planning on curling up on the couch with a book, or maybe decorating my bedroom - i'm thinking about hanging some of my photography on the walls. Though I need to talk with dad about that, and about what I could use to stick things to the wall.
Last night was quite cute - Jasper was a really good boy during dinner, he didn't beg or anything. So pat gave jasper a smacko's (i swear i just saw his head pop up when i typed that lol..the dog is amazing!). When pat gives him smacko's he makes him do tricks for them, sit/lay down/roll over that kind of thing. Last night he decided to try a new command - stay. He actually obeyed!!! which is shocking, considering it apparently took him 3 years to learn to sit (his old owner told us she had such trouble getting him to listen to her). So we were utterly amazed. He got lots of hugs and "good boy" compliments.
A few days ago dad got a soft toy shaped like an alligator (a joke), anyway we've been playing with him with it - he doesn't like it at all, it scares him. Anyway last night he was curled up on the couch next to me, and i slipped it between his paws while sleeping. Amazingly he stayed there like that, then pat tried to grab it... he started growling and snarling at him! like he does when pat's tickling my feet and jasper doesn't like it (he's my little prince in puppy armor). I nearly fell off the couch I was laughing so much. Jasper even went so far as to give the toy a bath, so cute! I got a couple of pics I just need to put them on the computer.
Well folks, I should go - the washing machine just beeped at me to signal the washing is done so i'd better get to it.
i'll leave you with a few photos of our gorgeous dog, Jasper....

the waiting game
I'm currently playing the waiting game... why? because on wednesday I had an interview for a job at a bookstore, and today is decision day! fingers crossed. She said if I don't hear from here by tonight then I wasn't successful but that I should keep applying because my library experience is what got me into one of the 10 spots for an interview!!! so thats really positive.
Not much going on besides that. Dad and Pat are going up to my aunt and uncle's farm for the weekend, and i'm staying home (because they're leaving about lunchtime and If i get the call for this job i might have to start as soon as saturday or sunday). Then of course there's the fact I might be puppysitting for my other uncle (depending on how our dog gets on with his dog). I don't mind though, because they'll be back saturday night and it will be nice to have the house to myself for a change.
It dawns on me that some of you might not know we have a dog now! his name is Jasper, he's an older dog but such a sweetie. He's a spoodle - a cocker spaniel mixed with poodle. I don't have any decent photos of him yet, but he's a caramel/browny colour.
Thats about it really, things are situation normal (for the most part).
Rachel, thanks for your comment to my last blog, I can't believe how expensive gas is getting! its crazy. I was talking to marj and alan the other day and they were telling me about it as well. Over here at the moment its about AU$6.00 a gallon (which works out to about $1.60 a litre which is what it is in some more remote/expensive areas). In nz they hit $2.10 a litre! Its madness.
Anyway I should get going, I need to have lunch before the hyper puppy turns up to see if he'll be okay here for a day or so with our dog.
hope you're all well and happy!
